Getting the Basics Right – Financial Literacy for Creatives

If your creative mahi is thriving but your money systems are a mess, this is for you.

Let’s be honest. Most of us didn’t get into business so we could spend our days wrangling GST returns or figuring out KiwiSaver. We got into it because we love what we do. The rush of a performance. The satisfaction of finishing a piece. The joy of seeing people connect with our work.

But here’s the catch:
If the money side of your mahi isn’t sorted, it can sneak up and cause a whole lot of stress. IRD letters you don’t understand. Tax bills you didn’t see coming. GST deadlines that pop up out of nowhere.

With support from ANZ and in partnership with Te Pou Theatre, we’ve created a FREE financial literacy workshop where creatives can finally get straight answers about the business side of their mahi.

We’re cutting through the confusion and giving you the basics in a way that makes sense, without the boring jargon. It’s practical, it’s relatable, and it’s built for people who’d rather be creating than buried in paperwork.

Why Financial Literacy Matters for Creatives

You don’t have to be a “numbers person” to run your creative business well. You just need to know the essentials, the stuff that keeps you in control and lets you focus on what you love.

The reality is, the more you understand the business side, the more freedom you have. No more guessing if you’ve put enough aside for tax. No more scrambling to figure out if you should be registered for GST. No more “I’ll sort it later” and then getting stung.

Getting this right isn’t about taking the soul out of your work, it’s about protecting it.

And hey – it’s free. If you care about your mahi, your income, and your peace of mind, there’s really no reason not to come.
